Devices engineered for the distances ordinary instruments cannot measure: between intention and action, presence and memory, speaking and being understood.
Instrument 01 · Bearings
Points not north, but toward the conversation most in need of returning to.
Hold level and remain quiet. The needle responds to accumulated avoidance, not geographic position.
Instrument 02 · Horology
Measures how long a place remains vivid after you have left it.
Begin the mechanism at the threshold. It slows as details fade and stops only when the place can no longer be entered in dreams.
Instrument 03 · Meteorology
Detects the pressure change in a room when everyone notices, but no one speaks.
Place where all occupants can see it. This may alter the reading, which is itself a reading.
Instrument 04 · Optics
Brings a missing word into focus by making every incorrect word briefly transparent.
Look through the lens at an empty margin. Do not force recognition; language approaches sideways.
Instrument 05 · Illumination
Illuminates only the person or task presently before you; everything else recedes.
Light with both hands empty. Its flame is extinguished by reaching for a second thing.
Instrument 06 · Transmission
Occasionally catches a faint broadcast from a choice you did not make.
Tune between familiar stations after midnight. Listen briefly. Reception is not instruction.
